About us

Our Story

Located in Westlock County, Alberta, Legacy Crest Shepherds is a family-run breeding program devoted to Czech working-line German Shepherds. Our family’s experience with German Shepherds began in 2004, and after more than two decades of living with, learning from and loving the breed, we established our breeding program in 2025.

The Dogs Behind Our Legacy

Today, our Shepherd family includes May, Prince, Puppy, and Chip. May and Prince were the inspiration behind Legacy Crest Shepherds. Their exceptional temperaments, intelligence and impressive athletic builds represent everything we value in the breed. They are substantial yet lean and muscular, with the agility, courage, focus and resilience characteristic of working-line German Shepherds. Their natural responsiveness and ability to understand new commands with very little repetition continually demonstrate the intelligence and trainability for which the breed is known.

Our Breeding Philosophy

Our breeding priorities are temperament, health and intelligence. We aim to raise confident, stable and highly trainable puppies that possess the loyalty, awareness and natural working ability of their Czech lineage. Our dogs can flourish in a variety of environments—from active family homes and rural properties to working or sport-focused homes. Their intelligence helps them learn quickly, while their working-line energy is best supported through consistency, activity and meaningful engagement.

Raised as Part of the Family

Every puppy is born and raised inside our home as part of the family. They are handled from birth and grow up around everyday household life, visitors and our younger family members. As they develop, we introduce them to new people, car rides and carefully managed experiences that help build confidence and adaptability. Before leaving for their new homes, puppies receive a complete veterinary examination and age-appropriate vaccinations.

A Lifelong Commitment

Our commitment does not end when a puppy leaves our care. Families receive ongoing breeder support and are welcome to contact us whenever they need advice or reassurance. If circumstances ever prevent a family from continuing to care for one of our dogs, we ask that they contact us rather than attempting to rehome the dog themselves. We are committed to welcoming our dogs back and helping protect their well-being throughout their lives.

Why We Do This

At Legacy Crest Shepherds, our program is built on a genuine love for our dogs and for the German Shepherd breed. Our goal is to allow other families to experience the intelligence, loyalty and connection that made us fall in love with these remarkable dogs.
